Micro-needling treatment allows for controlled inductions of the skins self repair mechanism by creating micro-injuries in the skin, which trigger new collagen syntheses, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result is smoother, firmer, and younger looking skin.
After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance- similar to a modern sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and sensitivity. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following the treatment. Complete healing time can take 24-72 hours. Micro-needling is contraindicated for patients with : keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular disease, cardiac abnormalities, active bacterial or fungal infections, and patient on blood thinner or have a hemorrhagic disorder. Micro-needling should not be done on scars less than a year old, women who are pregnant or nursing, patients with a history of eczema, psoriasis, keloid scars, herpes infections, diabetics, active acne, autoimmune disease or other chronic skin conditions. Patients must be off Accutane for over 6 months before they can receive a microneedling treatment.
