Your First Botox Appointment: What to know before you go!
Neuromodulator injections relax muscles and prevent wrinkles, giving your skin a smooth appearance. They can also help excessive sweating, reducing oil production, preventing acne, and so much more.
There are 4 neuromodulators currently available (Botox, dysport, xeomin, Jeuveau). Your provider will help you choose which one is best for you and help you sign up for the reward program associated with the drug for bonus savings!
This is a medical procedure so your first appointment will take at least 30 minutes and you will have to fill out some paperwork. Please review your paperwork we send you online before coming to your appointment. We will go over everything again and do a full medical history, assessment, and consents before injecting.
Please avoid blood thinning agents a couple days before (fish oil, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc). Please come to your appointment with a clean, make up free face. Make up wipes are available in clinic if needed.
The drug does take up to 2 weeks to kick in so plan your appointment accordingly with events (1 month out at least). If you are planning for a wedding please start your treatments a year out so we can get you the perfect dose for your big day!
You may bruise from the injections. Your face is full of veins and arteries so plan accordingly. You can apply make up after 24 hours, not immediately after due to risk of infection.
Work out before your appointment. No working out for 24 hours after.
We will take before photos, so we can track the results. We will want to see you back in 2 weeks, especially if you are a new patients so we can check your results and compare your photos.
Results last between 3-4 months. Tox injections are done 2-4x a year. You are not frozen through the full 3 months. Higher dose = more longevity. You will need around 12-20 units per area. I know cost is a huge factor. You will spend $300-600 per session for full treatment. This is a luxury! We will give you estimate before injecting. Your friends dosing will be different than yours. No face is the same!
Treating the lower face with some tox can be just as important as treating the upper face, so be open to it if we suggest it.
This is a preventative service and can be started in your 20s. It’s easier to prevent wrinkles than treat them later!
The first appointment is always a little scary but I promise most patients after the treatment say “that’s it?!”. The injections are quick and tolerable!
Tox injections can become addicting so please not you can only get them once every 90 days (3 months). If you do botox too often (before 90 days) you could build up antibodies to the drugs and it will not longer work for you! (sad day).
For those patients that work out heavily or compete in body building competitions please note that you will metabolize the drug quicker that others.
Overall, neuromodulator injections are an investment for your skin and you should find a provider that is trained and qualified to educate you and inject your face!
